Club Dima attracts thousands

UNWRAP.ONLINENAMIBIANS have joined a virtual nightclub called Club Dima in their numbers to reminisce their clubbing days as the deadly Covid-19 wave restricts them to inside their homes with clubs, bars and entertainment centres closed.

Club Dima started with the first lockdown in 2020 when DJ Loudima posted DJ sets on his Instagram page for friends and followers, however due to restrictions on the platform, it was not sustainable.

This prompted him to move to a different platform but it didn’t go as planned either, but with the advent of Clubhouse early this year, he saw a chance for a restart and to make it an experience.

Clubhouse is audio only, and allows people to interact on other platforms, like Twitter.

In recent weeks Club Dima became the talk of town and soon trended on Twitter making many people, including some law enforcers, believe it is an illegal underground joint.

As DJ Loudima puts it: “We are living in weird times and people must adjust to the new normal.”

According to DJ Loudima who is one of the Club Dima patrons, Club Dima has been growing and at the last session saw 281 people in the room at one time while more than 1 100 people moved in and out of it.

“I have found it hard to promote events over the past year because everyone is literally risking their lives, and the lives of their loved ones at home when they go out for entertainment. I’m conflicted because, it’s the industry I live in, and what pays my bills.

“At this point, I’m glad I can give people an experience in these times when people need it most. This is my service to the nation,” he said.

He added that they are looking at taking the club live once gatherings are allowed however this may not be happening soon, as they are committed to their members’ safety.

For the foreseeable future they plan on hosting a hybrid event instead, to allow for limited mingling once restrictions are relaxed while others can still just tune in and be part of the virtual live event.

There is however no haste, as it seems fans and members are content with the thrill of virtual clubbing and having their time tweeting quirky and nostalgic moments.

“With everyone trying to emulate the club experience online, there have been so many funny comments. From people using their cab money to buy another drink, to how people prepare themselves for the show, how people are ‘chilling in the VIP’.

“Some of my favourites are reactions to popular songs. I love that people choose to express themselves in what ever.”
