Comav takes gap on Swakop route

COMAV Air Charters has stepped in to fill the gap left by Air Namibia when the national airline cancelled its flights to and from Swakopmund last month.

Comav announced yesterday that it will introduce flights between Eros Airport and Swakopmund from Monday. Last month, Air Namibia Public Relations Officer Ellison Hijarunguru told The Namibian that the airline decided to drop the loss-making Swakopmund route after realising it did not make economic sense anymore.”According to them it might not be viable, but we’ve decided to do it,” Comav Operations Manager Ermo Loth told The Namibian yesterday.”Currently there are no flights to Swakopmund,” he said.Comav said in a statement that the private airline would fly between Eros and Swakopmund on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, using the medium-sized Beechcraft B1900D aircraft. The aircraft can accommodate 19 passengers, Loth said.Comav said the flight times would enable business people to fly to Swakopmund and return to Windhoek on the same day, while early arrivals back at Eros would allow passengers to connect to regional and international flights at Hosea Kutako Airport.Flights to Swakopmund will depart from Eros at 09h30 and arrive at Swakopmund at 10h15.Departures from Swakopmund will be at 15h45 and arrival at Eros will be at 16h30.Last month, Air Namibia Public Relations Officer Ellison Hijarunguru told The Namibian that the airline decided to drop the loss-making Swakopmund route after realising it did not make economic sense anymore.”According to them it might not be viable, but we’ve decided to do it,” Comav Operations Manager Ermo Loth told The Namibian yesterday.”Currently there are no flights to Swakopmund,” he said.Comav said in a statement that the private airline would fly between Eros and Swakopmund on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, using the medium-sized Beechcraft B1900D aircraft. The aircraft can accommodate 19 passengers, Loth said.Comav said the flight times would enable business people to fly to Swakopmund and return to Windhoek on the same day, while early arrivals back at Eros would allow passengers to connect to regional and international flights at Hosea Kutako Airport.Flights to Swakopmund will depart from Eros at 09h30 and arrive at Swakopmund at 10h15.Departures from Swakopmund will be at 15h45 and arrival at Eros will be at 16h30.
