‘ComiCon’ brings the funny this Friday

HOLD the cosplay but get ready for some comedy as Windhoek Comedy Club (WCC) presents ‘;ComiCon’; at the Warehouse Theatre this Friday.

Hosted by WCC founder Ujandja ‘;Jandjie the Comic’; Zatjirua and featuring a slate of offbeat acts including crowd favourite Barry B, the return of Alex and Last Comic Standing star Uncle Mike, ‘;ComiCon’; guarantees a variety of comedic delivery and insight from a riot of peculiar performers.

“I decided to stage the event purely in an attempt to add an additional comedic event to the calendar year, but more importantly, as a vehicle that can promote comedy in the city as well as identify new talent that requires assistance with a breakthrough in the industry,” says Jandjie.

“There are vehicles of comedy on the scene which have been in existence and effective for a very long time. We have the greats such as Lazarus Jacobs and Neville Basson. We have the pioneers such as Slick The Dick, Iileka and Courage the Comedian. Forward looking cats like Tapiwa Makaza, who has spent some good time doing comedy abroad. What we would like to do is add additional variety, and to act as a conduit for talent identification for the ‘;unconventional’; comic.”

Making light of a vast array of topics including but not limited to parenthood, the dynamics of relationships, the state of national governance and human behaviour, ‘;ComiCon’; will be serving its jokes real, raw, unapologetic and with four distinct comedic styles unique to the featured comics.

Incoming with the awkward is comedian Barry B who styles himself as “a joker of all trades”.

“I would describe my comedy style as awkward with bursts of funny,” says the comedian who aims to be as relatable as possible and sees the inaugural ‘;ComiCon’; as an event not to be missed before a celebration of note.

“The after-party tends to be synonymous with powerful hangovers,” he says.

“We want everybody to be there. Bring your mamas, your neighbours and your cousins twice removed!”

Windhoek Comedy Club’;s ‘;ComiCon’; will take place at the Warehouse Theatre on Friday, 26 October.

The show starts promptly at 20h00 and advance tickets are available from EventsToday, the PayToday app and Airtime City kiosks.
