OSHAKATI – A workshop on communal land reform organised by the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement at Oshakati had to be postponed last week because only four people turned up.
The workshop for officials from the Safety and Security Ministry and Communal Land Board members in the Oshana region was supposed to take place on Wednesday, but only three traditional leaders and one Police officer turned up. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday next week. The workshop was organised to inform the Police of their role in the enforcement of the decisions of traditional authorities and Land Boards in terms of the Communal Land Reform Act.According to Permanent Secretary Frans Tsheehama, the Lands Ministry has identified a lack of Police involvement in helping the Land Boards to enforce their decisions as an obstacle in the implementation of the Act.Tsheehama said this emerged from a recent meeting of Ministry officials and Land Board chairpersons. The Chairperson of the Communal Land Board in the Oshana Region, John Kandombo, said new invitations would be sent out to all Police station commanders and the region’s Board members to ensure that they attend the workshop next week.-NampaIt has been rescheduled for Tuesday next week. The Chairperson of the Communal Land Board in the Oshana Region, John Kandombo, said new invitations would be sent out to all Police station commanders and the region’s Board members to ensure that they attend the workshop next week.-Nampa
