Concern About Drugs In Erongo

Concern About Drugs In Erongo

ALLOW me to air my view on the escalation of use of marijuana in Usakos, Hakhaseb.

I read recently that the Regional Commander of the Erongo Region said that alcohol and drug abuse is the major headache for the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region. My observation is that Police in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund are fighting tooth and nail these types of crimes especially when they confiscate drugs such as cocaine and dagga but in and around the small towns criminals are openly using drugs because the Police Officers in small towns are either few or neglect their duties or equally collaborate with drug users meaning they are also using drugs. You find people driving nice and smart cars, some employed at prominent companies or institutions and still using drugs. I thought the use of drugs is associated with the poor and vulnerable but this is not the case in Usakos. Some are prominent semi-precious stones diggers/sellers also driving expensive cars, some of them staying in big cities like Windhoek. So Namibian Police wake up and smell the coffee. Intensify patrols during sports activities especially soccer. Employers take steps and start checking and testing your employees for drug-related signs and symptoms like bad breath, red eyes, always wearing dark glasses, even after sunset.Just walk in Hakhaseb in the streets of the side of the soccer field in Hakhaseb (Damara location) and you will know what I mean. Please start educating the community on the dangers of drug abuse together with the Health sector and if they do not stop immediately we will expose them so that they can be arrested. They are bad examples to the young generation who will grow up exposed to these criminal activities and regard them as ‘cool’ and normal.Till next time Lala NghishiiposhaVia e-mailNote: This letter has been shortened – Ed
