Consumers cushioned from high fuel prices in January

As a way for the government to cushion consumers from high fuel prices, the prices have been kept unchanged for January 2025.

The mines and energy ministry assessed the price of oil and saw it went down a little, but because the Namibian dollar was worth less compared to other currencies, and considering other costs like shipping and taxes still being high, the price of fuel in Namibia would not go down.

At Walvis Bay, the price of petrol will thus remain N$20.25 per litre, diesel 50ppm will remain N$19.72 per litre, and diesel 10ppm will remain N$19.82 per litre. The rest of the country will be adjusted accordingly.

The ministry in a statement last week Friday said over-recoveries of 17.847 cents per litre for petrol were recorded and under-recoveries of 37.591 cents per litre and of 28.637 cents per litre for for 50ppm diesel and 10ppm diesel were recorded, respectively.

“To that end, and taking into account the likely impact on the domestic economy and the consumers, the ministry is hereby announcing that petrol and diesel prices for both variants (diesel 50ppm and diesel 10ppm) will remain unchanged, allowing the National Energy Fund to play its shock absorption role,” the statement read.
