A POLICE officer shot himself dead soon after shooting his wife through the chest at their Swakopmund home on Sunday.
The wife survived the shooting which took place just after midnight on Saturday. Sergeant Erastus Shitengeni Uushona (36) shot himself in the head with his service pistol, according to the Police.An investigating officer said yesterday that from information obtained from the wife, Aina, the couple were quarrelling.Erastus took out his gun and shot Aina in the chest.When she fell to the ground, he apparently thought she was dead and shot himself in the head.Aina managed to get up and fled the house.Police officers on patrol in the neighbourhood saw her running and went to her assistance.Erastus was still alive when Police officers arrived at the residence.Both the husband and wife were rushed to the State Hospital.He died 30 minutes later.Aina is still hospitalised, but in a stable condition.Erastus had been stationed at Henties Bay for the past four years, and came home on weekends.The couple’s two children, aged eight and 10, were apparently asleep in the house at the time.Sergeant Erastus Shitengeni Uushona (36) shot himself in the head with his service pistol, according to the Police.
