Corruption convict elected to Swapo wing leadership post

The Swapo Women’s Council in Otjozondjupa region has elected corruption-convicted former Otjiwarongo local authority councillor as the league’s regional information mobiliser and treasurer.

Hilde Noreses was elected during the Swapo Party Women’s Council regional conference for the Otjozondjupa region held at Otjiwarongo on Saturday.

At the same event, Theresi Kukenge was re-elected as the Otjozondjupa regional coordinator.

Noreses was found guilty of corruption by accepting bribes to write off taxpayers’ outstanding tax at the Inland Revenue office at Otjiwarongo where she was employed.

She was subsequently sentenced to a fine of N$50 000 or two years in prison by the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court in July this year.

The Swapo regional leadership recently recalled Noreses from her local authority seat.
