Cran takes over predecessor’s assets and liabilities

THE Cabinet has approved the transfer of the assets and liabilities of the Namibia Communication Commission (NCC) to the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (Cran).

Information and communications minister Stanley Simataa announced this on Thursday at a briefing on a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday last week.

“Cabinet grants approval for the transfer of NCC’s moveable and immovable assets as well as the liabilities to Cran and Cabinet approved that Cran takes over the liabilities for the monitoring of sites and enter into lease agreements with concerned institutions,” stated Simataa.

The Namibia Communication Commission operated between 1992 and 2008, after which it was replaced by Cran.

Katrina Sikeni, Cran’s communications officer, did not respond to questions about why the NCC’s assets and liabilities are being transferred only now.

Cran is Namibia’s regulator that supervises telecommunication processes and networks.
