A crocodile spotted near the community hostel of Muzii Combined School in the Zambezi region was shot by the school’s board chairperson on Wednesday night.
The school in Kabbe South constituency houses about 100 pupils and is situated along a floodplain.
School principal Robert Shakwa on Friday said the crocodile was spotted by staff and pupils on separate occasions two days before the incident.
He said the school’s board chairperson spotted it on the premises of the community hostel on Wednesday at around 22h00.
“He shot the crocodile because it was a risk for pupils and staff. Fortunately, the pupils and staff were in their rooms,” Shakwa said.
He said both the school and the community hostel are surrounded by floodwater, and, as a result, the presence of crocodiles, snakes, and other wildlife is high.
