Crystal Clear

For a long time, the properties of minerals mined from the earth called crystals have been chronicled by many across the globe. It is believed by some that these stones have healing properties.

Singer, guitarist, graphic designer and photographer Shiruka (27) considers herself something of an expert on crystals.

A strong believer in their power, she has designed a jewellery line, Your Crystal Wear, allowing people to wear these stones close to their bodies.

“I have always been fascinated with creating something with my own hands, and one day I made a friend, who taught me how to make bracelets and necklaces. I started making them just for myself, and then someone saw it and asked if they could buy from me, so I embraced it,” Shiruka says.

She believes each crystal has certain properties affecting certain parts of the body or spirit.

Shiruka believes it is her mission to spread what she believes about crystals and how they can be used as a tool for those on a spiritual journey.

She recommends clear quartz for meditation and visualisation, amethyst for increasing wisdom and intuition, tiger eye for improved confidence and rose quartz to make “the love inside us vibrate much higher”.

“Crystals are special tools. I’ve always felt attracted to them – whether just for the colour or how they made me feel when I touched them,” she says.

Shiruka’s handmade crystal necklaces and bracelets can be customised so that each piece is unique, original and suits an individual’s personal style.

“It can be simple or classy and sophisticated or more hippy. It all depends on the type of rope and beading I use. I can even make a piece with more than one crystal. I am creating every day and it’s always different.”
