The NTA Tennis League continued this past Saturday at the Central Tennis Courts in Olympia with two encounters in the Men’s Second League.
CTC A were far too strong for Nampol, winning 20-0 points while CTC B defeated CTC C 16-4. The second-ranked Poly team had a bye.
Through this convincing victory CTC A now has a comfortable lead ahead of the second placed Poly team.
CTC A’s victory against Nampol started with Elias Shikongo from CTC A winning a tightly contested match against Marcell Ludik, 6-4, 6-2, while CTC A’s Eno Akpabio had an easier task against Jaco Steenkamp winning 6-1, 6-0.
In the doubles, Kuda Chani and Hilary Charuma won 6-1, 6-3 against Daan Nel and Warren Carr from Nampol, while Chani and Charuma also beat Ludik and Steenkamp 6-3, 6-3.
Shikongo and Akpabio won the third doubles encounter 7-5, 6-0 against Nel and Carr.
The highlight of the day was the match between home rivals CTC B and CTC C with CTC B coming out on top.
CTC B’s Ronaldo Uirab beat Melussi Khupe from CTC C, 6-3, 6-1, while Jurgens Twyman defeated CCT C‘s Massory Ickua, 6-2, 6-2.
The first doubles match saw David Ipinge and Oshoveli Hivelua win against CTC B’s Lawrence Kahindi and Kyalo Kitheka, 6-3, 6-4. Ipinge and Hivelua were however not so lucky against Uirab and Jurgens who won their match 6-1, 6-2. Khuphe then teamed up with Ickua to defeat Kahindi and Kitheka, 6-4, 6-4.
The players from Nampol were not put down by the outcome of the matches, but as they all said “the games were fun.” Ludik said he really enjoyed the matches and put up a fight against the young Shikongo who was much stronger and held the fort.
