Culture the backbone of life

The Ohangwena region on Tuesday celebrated annual heritage week with an emphasis on preserving culture.

Pupils from various schools in the region performed traditional dances and presented cultural items involving foods and plants used to treat various ailments, as passed down through the generations.

Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya highlighted that the celebration of heritage week should encourage all Namibians to commit themselves to protecting their natural and cultural resources, keep their culture alive and pass on inherited traditions, culture and knowledge.

“Heritage gives us pride in identity and dignity. This celebration encourages people to experience the beauty of their cultural diversity,” said Ndevashiya.
