Deceased in Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld accident identified

The names of the people who died in an accident between Otjiwarongo and Kalkfeld on Thursday, have been released.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy Makwatikizo of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region on Friday said the deceased were positively identified by their relatives.

They are 62-year-old Absalom Katupose, who was the driver of the pick-up, his wife Ewaldine Katupose, 44, and Ueriraisa Kasume, 34.

They were driving from Okakarara to Omaruru in the Erongo region to attend a wedding when their pick-up collided head-on with a truck.

“All three were occupants of the Isuzu and died on the spot due to the severe impact,” said Makwatikizo.

There were also two heads of cattle in the back of the pick-up, one of which did not survive the accident.

The accident occurred about 55 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo at approximately 20h45.

The 43-year-old truck driver survived the accident and was admitted to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital with injuries, but in a stable condition.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Kalkfeld Police Station.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
