Demining at community forestry project

Demining at community forestry project

RUNDU – A three-day operation to clear unexploded ordnance at the Mile 20 Community Forestry Project is in full swing, Community Forestry Media Liaison Officer Wolfgang Adamek said on Tuesday.

Adamek told Nampa that the operation involves experts from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and Namibian Police (NamPol), as well as some project members. He noted that many unexploded devices were already detected on the first day, but could not give the exact number until the process was completed on Wednesday afternoon. This operation will help the forestry project members to carry out their activities effectively, without fear of setting off landmines or grenades left over from the liberation war.Meanwhile, Regional Councillor for the Rundu Rural West Constituency, Herbert Shixwameni, has urged community members not to entering the area illegally, as they might step on unexploded mines.Shixwameni further encouraged residents who intend cutting trees or grass at the project site to follow the right procedures by consulting members of the project. The Mile 20 project is situated about 30 kilometres south of Rundu.- NampaHe noted that many unexploded devices were already detected on the first day, but could not give the exact number until the process was completed on Wednesday afternoon. The Mile 20 project is situated about 30 kilometres south of Rundu.- Nampa
