Desert Radio, owned by The Free Press of Namibia, is now available on MultiChoice channels.
‘The Bold Voice’, as per Desert Radio’s slogan, will from today be available on DStv channel 839 and GoTV channel 318.
This move came as the result of a partnership between The Free Press of Namibia and MultiChoice Namibia, which brings Desert Radio live on the sought-after audio bouquets of both DStv and GoTV.
Station manager Charles Tjatindi says the move is testimony to Desert Radio’s strategy to bring radio closer to the public.
He says this would make it easier for Desert Radio listeners and clients across Namibia and beyond to follow news, current affairs and entertainment.
“We will continue striving for more outreach of our radio and make sure we connect with the people behind our brand as much as we can.
“Desert Radio is more than just radio – it’s a community of people who follow it daily for their dose of news and infotainment,” Tjatindi says.
Desert Radio, established in 2021, is part of The Free Press of Namibia’s growing media footprint, which include the country’s leading newspaper The Namibian and WordPress printing press.
Desert Radio was recently launched at Oshakati on 105.6 FM, while plans to expand to the Erongo and Kavango regions are at an advanced stage.
“Before the end of this year, Desert Radio will be available in most of these places at FM frequencies. We will keep our listeners and advertisers updated on this development,” Tjatindi says.
The radio station’s associate producer, Charmaine Ngatjiheue, says: “I think most of us were sceptical and did not reckon we would be here, achieving milestones such as getting frequency in the north.
“Being available on DStv is another milestone, showing that as Desert Radio we are able to reach more people, not only in Namibia, but everywhere DStv reaches.”
Desert Radio producer Tiri Masawi says the latest development shows the station is growing and pushing to remain relevant to all its audiences.
“It’s part of a growing footprint, and as long as there’s an avenue to reach our audience, we are more than glad to fill it,” he says.
Currently, Desert Radio is available on FM frequency in Windhoek and surrounding areas on 95.3 FM and in the north on 105.6 FM. The radio is also accessible via online streaming on desertradio.fm.
