The Gravity Desert Stallions rugby team represented Namibia with pride at the Six Gun Grill Summer Tournament in Wellington, South Africa after winning all their matches.
The Desert Stallions were selected during the Namibia Youth Rugby Invitational tournament that featured schools from Namibia, including M&K Gertze, Windhoek Technical High School and Windhoek High School, competing against schools from South Africa in July.
Over the course of the tournament 28 talented players were identified and chosen to represent the Desert Stallions.
The team began training together at the end of September under the guidance of coaches George Rossouw and Dirk Human. Their preparation and hard work culminated in an exceptional performance at the Summer Festival in Wellington.
The Desert Stallions beat Melkbosstrand 15-5 in their opening match on 6 December and followed that up with a 30-5 victory against Tygerberg High School the next day.
On 9 December they beat Tygerberg High School 30-5, and concluded their tour undefeated with a 25-15 victory against Urban Warriors on 11 December.
“The team’s impressive preparation and high-quality rugby earned them numerous compliments from spectators and tournament organizers. Their success is a testament to the dedication of the players and the exceptional coaching by Rossouw and Human,” Shaun Powell the founder of the Gravity Desert Stallions said.
“The Desert Stallions initiative focuses on developing young players and exposing them to cross-border competition to elevate their skills. This experience equips the players with knowledge and insights to bring back to their respective schools and prepare for the 2025 season,” he added.
“The camaraderie within the team and their outstanding performances reflected the hard work they put in during the two-and-a-half month training camp. This platform not only enhances individual player growth but also strengthens the overall level of Namibian youth rugby,” Powell said.
