Sakaria ‘Desert Storm’ Lukas plans to prove he can still cut it when he fights undefeated American Maliek ‘Mayhem’ Montgomery in Atlanta on 22 November.
The veteran Namibian banger’s representatives, AC Promotions and Knucklehead, say the 10-round super featherweight bout will take place under the banner of Overtime Boxing.
As he continues pursuing a title shot in the super featherweight division at the age of 40, the fight is make or break for Lukas, who was once feared for his powerful presence and skill in the ring.
His last foray into American territory lasted eight rounds before getting stoppage by Raymond Ford two years ago.
Lukas’ first defeat as a professional also came in the United States, losing a unanimous decision to Isaac Avelar on 5 December 2020.
“This fight is a big moment for Sakaria,” said his trainer and promoter Immanuel Moses.
Desert Storm is preparing for the fight at Knucklehead Boxing Gym in Las Vegas with Moses and coach Kay Koroma.
Koroma is known for his work with rising American prospect Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington.
“He’s training with world-class coaches and the best up-and-coming talent, like Bruce Carrington. He [Lukas] is more prepared than ever to make an impact and prove his place on the international stage,” Moses said.
Montgomery, with an impressive 19-0 record, including 17 knockouts, wants to prove there is more to his skill-set than just being a puncher or being a sparring partner for some of boxing’s top fighters.
He has clashed with boxing stars such as Edgar Berlanga, Ryan Garcia, Gervonte Davis, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney, to name a few off of his very impressive resume.
“Montgomery, a fierce competitor in his own right, is eager to showcase his skills in front of a home crowd,” Moses said.
“The fight promises to be an electrifying showdown as both men bring their distinct styles and ambitions to the ring, creating an unforgettable event for boxing fans.”
