DHPS win on first attempt

DHPS win on first attempt

DEUTSCHE Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) were the surprise winners of the recent First National Bank schools’ table tennis tournament at their first participation in the five-year-old tournament.

The German students eliminated defending champions Dr Lemmer High School of Rehoboth in an entertaining final.
Rehoboth High School took third place.
Ten schools from Rehoboth, Mariental and Windhoek took part, with three players in each team. For DHPS, Jurgen Raehs, Dementrio Moves and Devano Moves formed a team, while Sydney Waterboer, Angelo Majiedt and Ivan Korner were the competitors from Dr Lemmer.
Rehoboth High School consisted of Rosario Job, Shaun Vries and Brendon Khubas.
The outstanding player of the tournament was Jurgen Raehs, who only lost one point, while the three players from Ruimte Primary School (John van Wyk, Henrique Olivier, and Dario Vries) were the best players in the primary school section.
The other schools which competed at the event included M&K Gertze High School from Rehoboth, Telecom Eliminators from Windhoek, Ruimte Primary from Rehoboth, JTL Beukes Primary School from Rehoboth, Mariental High School and Orego Primary School from Rehoboth.
The next event on the table tennis calendar will be the National Championships for juniors and seniors.
Which will take place in July, while the next schools’ event will take place in Swakopmund in October.
