A designated team from Windhoek’s Dis-Chem store set out to donate free sanitary towels to girls from various disadvantaged schools in the capital on Wednesday, 5 September.
The initiative, which forms a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, saw several plastic bags’ worth of pads given to the schools as a show of support.
According to one of the heads of department at Dr Frans Aupa Indongo Primary School at Okahandja Park, Laimi Schikwambi, “we’ve taught the girls and boys that is is not a taboo. The boys should always be involved. They understand and have accepted it.”
Dis-Chem’s senior customer care consultant, Ruth Kandoni, also expressed her delight at the initative, saying that Dis-Chem is always passionate about giving back. The store launched a campaign where customers could donate pads, and these were then distributed to schools. Beyond this, they also run a campaign for the elderly.
YouthPaper went along for the journey as the Dis-Chem team went from school to school.
