Dismissed workers petition Aranos abattoir

WINDHOEK – A group of 23 workers and members of the Namibian Food and Allied Workers’ Union (Nafau), who were dismissed from the Aranos Abattoir in February, have handed over a petition to the abattoir’s management in protest of their dismissal.

The Aranos Abattoir’s management was given until June 15 to respond to the workers’ grievances contained in the petition. The dismissed workers said they would take unspecified action if the deadline was not met. This was confirmed to Nampa by Nafau’s Edwin Kangora, who was present at Aranos when the petition was handed over to the abattoir’s management yesterday morning.Nafau’s General Secretary Kiros Sackarias said in a statement that the fired workers decided to hand over a petition to demand justice, because they felt that they were unfairly dismissed. The employees are reported to have filed an appeal against the dismissal, which has not been considered by the abattoir’s management. The union further said that the Ministry of Labour, through the Office of the Labour Commissioner, had given directives to Aranos Abattoir’s management to reinstate the 23 fired workers.NampaThe dismissed workers said they would take unspecified action if the deadline was not met. The union further said that the Ministry of Labour, through the Office of the Labour Commissioner, had given directives to Aranos Abattoir’s management to reinstate the 23 fired workers.Nampa
