THE continuation of the ‘oppression, hidden apartheid, unemployment and discrimination’ under the Swapo-led Government might lead to a revolution in Namibia, the Democratic Party of Namibia (DPN) has warned.
At a rally at Keetmanshoop on Sunday, DPN president Salmon Dawid Isaacs accused Swapo of neglecting job creation and claimed that jobs are only given to the Oshiwambo-speaking majority.Calling on Keetmanshoop residents to vote for DPN, Isaacs promised that DPN would implement the basic income grant (BIG) and root out corruption if voted into power. ‘Millions are swindled out of Government coffers through corrupt practices, but when it comes to BIG they say there is no money,’ said Isaacs. ‘Those against BIG are earning a lot of bucks just to sleep and yawn during Parliament sessions,’ he added. Isaacs also promised to release the Caprivi treason trial accused from jail, saying they had tried to secede the Caprivi Region from the rest of Namibia because of the oppression in the country.Isaacs also took a swipe at the NBC, claiming it gives preferential treatment to the Swapo Party when it comes to political news coverage. Isaacs promised to limit the number of shebeens because they promote alcohol abuse and violence.’Shebeens are not the culture of Nama people, therefore DPN will limit the number of shebeens,’ said Isaacs. Welcoming the double-cab bakkies Government recently handed over to traditional chiefs countrywide, Isaacs said it was not a Swapo Party gift since these vehicles were bought with the taxpayer’s money.luqman@namibian.com.na
