Local gospel performer Dr Alfons has over a decade’s experience in the music industry, and he’s also a youth leader, actor, activist and music video director.
He has released six albums so far, which include popular songs like ‘Taking Over’ and ‘Favour, Lineekela’, which feature his preferred genres amapiano, gospel and Afro-pop.
Dr Alfons, a pension funds consultant by trade and also a graduate with an MBA from the University of South Wales, caught up with The Namibian last week to discuss his music career.
He says president Hage Geingob declaring 2023 the year of revival for “reigniting the strength of a resurgent nation” was the inspiration for his new eight-track album titled ‘Revival’.
The album addresses the nation’s post-Covid recovery.
“Our economy is booming and our country is turning back to God with renewed hope and optimism,” he said.
With the help of renowned producer DJ Chronics, Dr Alfons began working on the record in 2021. However, he was forced to put it on hold until the end of last year due to Covid-19.
Staley, Mize, Sinny, Lettie_G, The Messenger, Verdade Kimbuku, and Aleluia Kimbuku, are some of the artists featuring on the album, which features hits like ‘Revival’, ‘Omagano’, and ‘Maranatha Come Lord’.
“The album has different vibes and feels for every day of the week,” says Dr Alfons.
He believes ‘Revival’ is more distinctive than his other albums as it addresses the economy’s recovery, people returning to work, and turning to Christ as their source of hope and salvation.
Dr Alfons also shot four music videos for the album in Windhoek, which will be released at the end of May, July, September and November, respectively.
Dr Alfons intends to promote his album throughout the year, with big plans for early October, when he intends to hold the Megafest Praise Revival Festival, which he says will be unique and unite many musicians.
“The gospel music industry is quite vast in Namibia as people are hungry and thirsty for God, live shows and more events.
His love of music started in high school when he joined the Golden Voices band, later switching to the Unam choir and performing solo pieces at cultural events.
“Since then, my music has changed, but the message has remained the same: to inspire hope and love in the Namibian youth.”
