Staff at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) are due to get a 7% salary increase.
This comes after an agreement was reached between Nust management, the Namibia Public Workers Union (Napwu) and the Teachers’ Union of Namibia (TUN) on Monday.
“The university, together with Napwu, representing the administrative staff, and TUN catering for the academic community, concluded another milestone to the benefit of the respective constituents,” notes a statement released by Nust.
Administrative staff and academics under the bargaining unit will receive a 7% salary increase, while members of the executive management will get a 4.9% increase, notes the statement.
Speaking at the joint announcement on Monday, Nust vice chancellor Erold Naomab said: “The adjustment reflects our continued commitment to recognising the hard work of our staff, whose contributions are vital to the success of our institution.”
Naomab further urged staff members to spend their earnings wisely.
Napwu deputy general secretary Matheus Ndeshikeya said the negotiations were cordial for all parties.
“We have become transparent in our approaches, which shows our relationship has matured. We also aim to ensure that our productivity meets our demands,” Ndeshikeya added.
