ECN sticks to its guns on deregistered NEFF, CDV

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has issued a notice to announce that the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) and Christian Democratic Voice (CDV) are indeed stripped of their political party statuses.

This comes after the commission’s head, Peter Shaama, received a letter from the NEFF, demanding that it adhere to the deadline of 30 June given the party for the submission of its financial statements.

The ECN was given until Thursday to comply with this demand, but instead issued an official notice confirming the two parties’ deregistration..

“The Electoral Commission of Namibia herewith gives notice in terms of Section 152 (f). read with Section 153 (2) of the Electoral Act 5 of 2014, as amended, that the registration certificates and registration of the following political parties have been cancelled and the parties have been deregistered: NEFF [and] CDV,” the notice reads.

In a letter sent to Longinus Iipumbu on 24 April, Shaama requested that the NEFF deputy leader submit the party’s statements and proof of publication in local newspapers by 30 June.
