The Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) has sponsored N$50 000 to address plastic waste in the country.
It also participated in a youth clean-up campaign organised by the Tukwatha Youth Organisation.
EIF chief executive Benedict Libanda reassures the fund’s commitment to supporting events of a similar nature, adding that litter is a serious environmental challenge.
Libanda says the EIF is working on a number of initiatives that will reduce plastic waste or pollution.
He says EIF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, is working on a subsidy scheme for recycling companies to improve their efficiency as well as business returns.
He adds that the fund is also in collaboration with the City of Windhoek and will introduce an incentive for people who present plastic waste to recycling facilities across the country.
Another intervention Libanda notes is the collecting of plastic levies currently being implemented in collaboration with the Namibia Revenue Agency.
