Elcin appeals for help to pay ill pastor’s medical bills

THE office of the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia’s western diocese is appealing for help to raise N$200 000 needed to foot the medical bills of retired reverend Aune Shilongo-Hamunyela.

In a message by western diocese bishop Veikko Munyika, he has asked for assistance to raise the funds to pay the medical bills of Shilongo-Hamunyela (79), who has been in hospital since March last year.

Shilongo-Hamunyela is known for presenting the Sunday programme ‘Kalunga Kehekeleko Alihe’ on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation’s Kati FM radio.

Munyika said Shilongo-Hamunyela’s family have been left with medical debts of more than N$600 000.

“So far, through contributions from family, institutions and individuals, we managed to settle more than N$400 000,” he stated, adding that a balance of about N$202 000 still has to be paid to Ongwediva Medipark private hospital.

Munyika also said: “It is against this background that I humbly request parishes, institutions and individuals to help reverend Hamunyela’s family to settle part of this bill.

“The family was given until 26 February 2021 to settle the bills. Kindly assist with whatever you have.”

According to Shilongo-Hamunyela’s nephew Josephat Nghuutoola, his aunt suffered a stroke and has been in and out of hospital since March last year.

She has been in the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital since last month.

Nghuutoola said his aunt cannot sit on her own, as she is unconscious.
