Elcin gets new leaders

THE Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (Elcin) last week seconded revered Hilya Nghaangulwa to lead its eastern diocese in Oniipa, Oshikoto region, until a substantive bishop is elected.

According to a report on the church’s online publication, Omukwetu, Nghaangula, who is the pastor of Edundja parish in Ohangwena region, was seconded at the church’s synod that took place at Ongwediva Elcin Centre from 29-30 November.

The synod also appointed Gideon Niitenge as Elcin’s presiding bishop of Elcin at the western dioces at Nakayale in Omusati region, until the next ordinary synod in 2024.

Niitenge was elected as moderator for the eastern diocese at Elcin synod in August this year.

The two have replaced bishops Veikko Munyika and Shekutamba Nambala, who have stepped down.

They will be ordained next week.

The secondment of Nghaangulwa to lead the eastern diocese and the promotion of Niitenge as acting presiding bishop was necessitated by the death of bishop-elect Martin Ngondji in September.
