ELCRN has new bishop

Pastor Sageus /Keib of Immanuel Parish at Swakopmund is now the new bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia ( ELRCN).

He succeeds retiring bishop Ernst //Gamxamub.

The church’s ongoing high synod at Mariental, which kicked-off on Sunday and ends today, yesterday announced /Keib garnered the highest votes of 5316 .

The congregants casted 8901 votes during the election for a new bishop held in March this year.

Outgoing deputy bishop Paul Hatani , who served for the past consecutive years as the bishop’s deputy, scored the second highest votes of 1839.

The third bishop candidate Pastor Abraham //Kheibeb scored 1702 votes. However, he becomes the /Keib’s deputy.

Kisting, although he is the runner up in the three horse race , is prohibited by the church constitution to serve as deputy bishop for the third consecutive year.The church constitution only allows a deputy bishop to serve for two consecutive terms.

The ballots were kept in safe custody since the May election, and vote counting only started only Tuesday afternoon.
