Congress of Democrats president Ben Ulenga today called for the immediate resignation of chief elections officer, Paul Isaack, and that the polls should be called off.
“Our assessment based on reports from hundreds of our representatives in the field across the whole country is that the current elections have been a sham and a complete fiasco and is very far below what can be called a credible electoral process.”
“At numerous major polling stations across the country queues numbering several hundreds of voters still stretched into the night at 00h00. Voters went back home without voting after a whole day of queuing.
“Many others saw polling stations being slammed shut in their faces. There is an outcry across the nation, namely that the ECN has failed to guarantee a credible and worthy elections.
“We therefore call for the immediate resignation of Professor Paul Isaack as director of elections, the calling off of the current sham process and for the holding of what will be a truly credible, fair and worthy elections on the nearest possible date.
Isaack announced this morning before 09h00 that Namibians were still voting at Ondobe in the Ohangwena Region and Windhoek Prison in the Khomas Region.
All voters who were in the queue at 21h00 last night are eligible to vote.
The ECN decided to have the polls in one day and not two days as in the past. They also introduced the electronic voting machines (EVM) for the first time this year, a first for Africa.
