Eluwa calls for specialised learning materials

smart

Eluwa Special School at Ongwediva is in dire need of various specialised machinery, equipment, learning and teaching materials for the visually and hearing impaired, and those with intellectual impairments.

Hilma Nuuyango-George, the deputy education director of the Oshana region says the directorate does not have enough funds to procure and provide sufficient equipment and materials, hence the directorate is apealing to the public to come to their aid.
She said this during the official handover of learning materials donated to Eluwa Special School by Debmarine Namibia last week at Ongwediva.

“As a directorate of education in the Oshana region, we could not provide or cater for the needs for our three units at Eluwa Special School. The pupils here need special attention as well as an assistant teacher in class,” she said.
She said the shortage of science equipment is of concern to most schools in the region, with Eluwa being no exception.
Nuuyango-George said equipping science laboratories at schools promote better quality education.

“We call upon other stakeholders, whether public or private, to come on board and support our schools. The ministry alone cannot afford to provide for all the schools alone. Therefore, I’m calling on others to emulate those who keep assisting us,” she said.
Debmarine Namibia donated science equipment worth N$300 000 to the school to support its mission.

Chairperson of the Debmarine Namibia social investment committee Stella Iipinge said Debmarine firmly believes in the importance of giving back to the community and supporting the less fortunate.
“Disability does not mean inability, therefore we believe that by assisting Eluwa Special School, we are contributing towards improving the lives of children with visual, hearing and intellectual impairments. We believe in the power of education, and we remain committed to education for all,” she said.
