Interest is running high in Saturday’s super bantamweight clash in Manila between Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa of Namibia and John Riel Casimero of the Philippines, with the bout already sold out.

Namibian boxing promoter Nestor Tobias confirmed in an email on Thursday that the fight for the WBO Global Super Bantamweight title has been sold out.

“The fight is officially sold out and the world cannot wait to see Casimero back in action in his hometown,” Tobias said.

“Nghitumbwa will be fighting away from home for the first time, but he has the capacity to dethrone a highly rated Casimero,” he added.

Tobias said the MTC Sunshine team arrived in Manila on Sunday, 7 May and had to quickly adjust after a 23-hour flight.

“The team has, however, settled in very well and immediately resumed training in anticipation of this mega showdown which is the main bout of the evening,” he said.

“Casimero is a popular three-division world champion and highly rated in the world and winning this fight means he will be setting up a potential world title fight in the near future,” he added.

“This is a really big fight and I can assure all Namibians and the world that Energy is ready to battle Casimero and cause a big upset on Saturday. We had the face-off this morning, while the official weigh-in will be on Friday.

“We came here to win and Energy is in good spirits ahead of the biggest fight of his life. We hope that all Namibians will be able to watch this fight live and we want to thank everybody for the well wishes,” he said.
