• RINELDA MOUTONThose interested in entering the national beauty pageant can now do so online. Annually, Miss Namibia celebrates beauty with a charitable cause by crowning one deserving young woman with the coveted title.
Initiating a drive to bring charity to the less-privileged to promote deserving social causes, Miss Namibia strives to set an example of purposeful living and to bring honour and pride to our nation as an ambassador of Namibia.
Hannelie Mostert, Miss Namibia media administrator, said the idea to introduce online applications came to give more women the opportunity to enter.
“In the past, we have noticed that it was very difficult for some ladies from outside Windhoek to get hold of an application form. Entry forms were only available at the offices of The Namibian and Republikein newspapers across the country. Many ladies complained that they needed to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for transportation costs. This discouraged many Namibians who had the potential to win and put our country’s name on the international map,” said Mostert.
She added that digital platforms are taking over worldwide and it was time for them to follow suit.
Mostert said many people she has spoken to thus far are pleased about the online applications because it is much easier and cheaper.
“Almost everyone has a cellphone with internet nowadays. Those who are applying online no longer have to pay for scanning and fax fees at internet cafes. They can now apply in the comfort of their home, in a safe area and at any time of the day,” she said.
