Erongo red interested in electrical vehicles

THE Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor (Erongored) is exploring the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet in future.

The company’s chief executive, Immanuel !Hanabeb, said on Wednesday that the integration will align with global sustainability trends.

“We recognise the potential of EVs in reducing carbon emissions and operational costs, and we are actively assessing their feasibility for our operations. Our goal is to introduce EVs within the next one to two years as part of our broader commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility,” he said.

!Hanabeb made the announcement while handing over a fleet of 11 new light- and heavy-duty vehicles to staff members at Walvis Bay, procured at a cost of over N$8.4 million.

The vehicles, that run on diesel, will be used to support technicians in addressing medium- and low-voltage maintenance, grid expansion projects and new consumer connections.

Seven vehicles will be assigned to cover Omaruru, Karibib, Usakos, Uis, and surrounding areas, two to serve Swakopmund, Henties Bay, and Arandis and two to Walvis Bay and nearby areas.

The chief executive said the effort is a testament to the company’s commitment to progress and service excellence.
