Esther Kakololo gears up for new album

Esther Kakololo

Esther Kakololo (13) is set to release her second studio album in April. She and her father, Natty Kakololo, spoke to The Namibian about her work since her 2023 song ‘Mounyuni’ and her career path.

“Having recorded her first album, ‘The Young Shall Grow,’ and roughly five wedding songs, the world has been beating a path for Esther. She’s been touring town by town, schools and wedding receptions showcasing her talents,” Kokololo says.

Now in her early teens, Esther is working on her second studio album, which is 80% complete.

“The title of the album has not been announced yet, but fans can expect a mature and soulful sound,” Kokololo says.

“The album talks about real-life issues, love and gratitude to God. She’s grown from being a nine-year-old star to a 13-year-old with depth and experience.”

The new album will be 13 tracks long – one for each year of her life – and has been accomplished in cooperation with artists from the regions such as Voster Wamee, Golden V, Villo Wise, Rose Kaponga, Nessy Shapama and Sunny Moscar.

The team also wishes to wrap up the album in collaboration with Dama Monique, ML and DJ Vuyo.

Esther’s previous collaboration with Top Cheri on ‘Ileni’ remains a fan favourite.

The song, which followed her viral performance at the Sam Nujoma Stadium during the Namibia Musical Cultural Festival in 2023, was produced by Bexxa Carter and Kamtonyo from PDK.

The song will appear on her upcoming album.

Even with a music career, Esther’s education remains the top priority.

“She spends 99% of her time on schoolwork. Studio sessions are only on long weekends or holidays. We decline gigs and interviews when we must so that she can have a balanced life,” Kokololo says.

“She’s always one of the top five pupils in her class.”

Esther’s last major performances in 2024 were at Top Cheri’s Kiddies Concert and the Old School Festival, where she wowed crowds with her charisma and energy.

“Her fuel package is simple – 100% juice, a KFC snack, and a little encouragement. She gives it her all on stage.”

Looking ahead, Esther says 2025 will be a year of revolution.

She intends to headline bigger shows, drop new singles, and collaborate with industry giants, positioning herself firmly as Namibia’s most promising young star.
