Events this weekend

THERE’S always something going on in Windhoek. Before it gets a little too chilly to be out in these streets, join one of the many exciting events happening this weekend.

Vinyls Cafe in Windhoek is having a poetry night on Friday, under the theme ‘Where Words Groove and Hearts Move’. Tickets cost N$70 in advance and N$100 at the door, which opens at 19h30.

For theatre lovers, Keith Vries and Patrick Sam bring their performance poetry production ‘Coming Home Dead’ back to the stage for an encore on Friday at 19h00. Tickets cost N$200.

The Loft is bringing South African ‘Abo Mvelo’ hitmaker Daliwonga for a night of thrills and spills on Friday. On Saturday, the party continues as DJ Alba Nvlo celebrates 10 years in the music game with her own stellar line-up. Tickets cost N$100.

For the ladies, why not attend the Women Entrepreneur Collaboration Event at the Stratos Ballroom at Avani? Speakers include renowned female business owners, hosted by Elago Shitaatala, with musical performances. A spot will cost you N$700 and starts at 14h00.

You could also take Mutindi Jacobs’ Interior Styling and Homemaking Masterclass at Belvedere Boutique Hotel from 10h00 on Saturday and Sunday. For N$1 900, you can learn a few tricks of the trade.

Spoken word poetry is making a resurgence, and on Saturday you can grab a front row seat to ‘Frankly Speaking’, starring a few local orators at Muso’s Cafe. N$50 gets you into the 18h00 slated affair.

Also on Saturday, but at Vinyls Cafe, you can catch musician Dee’A and Hot Pocket Band for a night of jazz music with a local twist. Tickets cost N$300 and the show begins at 18h30.

To round the weekend off, join Namibia’s Drag Superstar for Drag Night Unplugged at Anna’s Kloovenburg. The dress code is Emblems of Royalty. Tickets cost N$120 in advance and N$150 at the door, which opens from 17h00.
