This is my penultimate events guide for the year, and I must say, I have had a lot of fun compiling them. But just because the year is winding down, doesn’t mean you have to as well. If you’re looking for somewhere to spend your Christmas bonus, you have a few good options, including a fun run, a horse parade at the coast, a birthday celebration, karaoke, or you could test out just how bottomless bubbles can be. On the other hand, you could join the regularly held Alcoholics Anonymous sessions, or sit down for a vision board making session and start your 2025 off right.
The choice, once again, is yours.
Today
Reiterverein Swakopmund’s 68th Annual Tournament started on Tuesday and continues till Sunday. It features dressage, show jumping, a derby and more. Today there will be a parade through town. Entry is free.
This Weekend
The Rooftop Lounge is turning one and celebrating with birthday parties on Friday and Saturday featuring DJ Ambizzy and DJ Acter, with Chilli Bite as the MC. Entrance as from 14h00.
Next Week
On Tuesday, the National Arts Council and Unesco will be hosting a validation session on the National Arts Fund Act at The Village in Liliencron Street from 08h00 to 17h00. The event will include reflections on insights from consultations across Namibia’s 14 regions, panel discussions and online contributions. This is to refine the draft framework for the sustainable growth of the arts sector, and to ensure it captures the needs and aspirations of the local creative economy. You can also watch the live session on the National Arts Council’s Facebook page.
Next Saturday, 21 December, catch South African duo ShakesXLes live at Swakopmund’s Club Naps. Also on the line-up will be The Rhythm, Groovetainment, Mwifi, Fishy and Kevi. Doors open from 19h00.
Also next Saturday, the Santa Run/Walk takes place at Swakopmund from 07h30 for the 10km route and 07h40 for the 5km route. Dress up as Father Christmas, an elf or your favourite holiday character, and join in on the fun. Entry fees start at N$100, with 50% of the proceeds going towards water safety programmes. The Mole Beach parking area is the starting point.
If you are in Windhoek on the 21st, why not enjoy Bottomless Bubbles at Studio Pub & Grill for N$250 per person between 13h00 and 17h00. There will also be live DJs and food options on sale.
