Father charged with murder of 5-month-old baby

A five-month-old baby died from a head injury over the weekend.

The child was injured after allegedly being struck with a stone by his father (33) three months ago.

According to reports, the father allegedly meant to hit the baby’s mother with the stone during a domestic altercation at Nkandi village in the Kavango West region.

The child was then transported to Nankudu District Hospital and later to Windhoek State Hospital for the treatment of a fractured skull.

The father has been in police custody since the incident. The charges against him have now been changed from attempted murder to murder.

Police investigations continue.

In another incident, Keetmanshoop resident Ricardo Goliath (52) died after his cousin allegedly stabbed him with a knife in the neck over the weekend.

According to reports, the suspect’s girlfriend (38) broke the knife and then threw it on top of a shack in an attempt to conceal the murder weapon.

The knife was, however, retrieved with the assistance of a witness.

The suspect and accomplice have been arrested.

Goliath’s next of kin have been informed. Police investigations continue.

In a separate incident, Felix Shilongo (18) died at Karibib over the weekend after he was stabbed in the chest.

According to reports, a man was arrested after he handed himself over at the Karibib police station. Shilongo’s next of kin have been informed. Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a man (58) took his own life in Windhoek’s Havana suburb over the weekend. Martin Shipo’s body was discovered in his bedroom.

According to reports, Shipo’s girlfriend alerted the police when she could not contact him after finding the house door locked from the inside. Police investigations continue.

In a seperate incident, an Angolan man (50) has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after attacking another Angolan man (35) with a panga.

The incident occurred at around 20h00 on Friday, at a cuca shop at Oothadhambuku village in the Oshikoto region.

According to police reports, the two men got into an argument.

“While arguing, the elder of the two ran home where he retrieved a panga, which he used to slash the victim on the head and left arm before fleeing the scene,” says Oshikoto police regional commander Theopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku.

The victim sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to the Onandjokwe District Hospital.

The suspect, originally from Santa Clara, Angola, was arrested and appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
