Fekken wins 2009 Total Tara Rally

HERGEN Fekken and co-driver Pierre Arries won the 2009 Total Tara Rally after finishing in a time of three hours 18 minutes and 19 seconds held on the outskirts of Windhoek at the weekend.

The South African drivers were driving in their Volkswagen Polo S2000 to win the famous race which was covered over a total of 620 kilometres.Close on their heels were the Namibian team of Jaco van Dyk and Michel Rust with a time of 3 hours 23 minutes 44 seconds. The Namibians also drove in a Volkswagen Polo S2000 class vehicle. National Champion Dick Cornelissen and co-driver Gunther Skutsch took third place, three minutes 17 seconds behind Van Dyk. Hannes Arangies failed to complete the Tara due to mechanical failure only 600 metres shy of the final stage. This was only the third time he failed to complete a rally in five years. The Dutch team of Flip van Zutphen and Theo Badenberg, who were very popular among competitors and spectators alike, also had to throw in the towel due to mechanical failure of their Lancia. – www.rally.com.na
