THE Ministry of Health and Social Services has acquired 53 vehicles that will help to deliver medical services to people suffering from tuberculosis and AIDS.
The vehicles were bought with funding from the Global Fund against HIV-AIDS, TB and Malaria and the US Centres for Disease Control (CDC). They will be distributed to hospitals and clinics in all 13 regions, and will help health workers to follow up on the treatment of TB sufferers and to trace people who have abandoned their TB treatment. The central northern regions – Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati and Oshikoto – received their vehicles on Friday during the national World TB Day commemoration held at Omafo village in Ohangwena. The occasion was addressed by Health Minister Dr Richard Kamwi, World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Representative Dr Custodia Madlhate, USAID Namibia Mission Director Gary Newton, the Namibian Red Cross Secretary General Razia Essack-Kauaria.Besides the vehicles, hospitals will also receive computer and multimedia equipment secured from the Global Fund.
