THE National Fishing Corporation of Namibia (Fishcor) board said the process of appointing a permanent chief executive officer will be clean.
This after asked the board to explain why it only gave possible suitors four days to apply for the job.
This attracted suspicion on whether the board already had a person in mind to take charge of the national fishing company that is tainted by corruption.
Fishcor board chairperson Herinrich Mihe Gaomab II said the call for applications, which started on Tuesday, will end on 27 November 2020.
“The process will be above board and with sound corporate governance in mind. There are no ulterior motives, nor is the board favouring anyone, and all due process will be followed,” he said.
Gaomab II is part of the temporary Fishcor board of which the term will end on 31 December 2020.
The temporary board said it will ensure that the CEO is appointed in the next three weeks.
“ The process is not hastened nor slowed, and the board is seized with this matter towards a transparent and integral conclusion. We should be able to ensure the conclusion of the process of CEO recruitment by the 9 December 2020,” Gaomab II added.
He said they hope to complete the process to ensure the stability of the company.
He said the company’s HR process will be followed transparently and in accordance to Fishcor’s policy.
Fishcor’s board, led by former Investec Asset Management Namibia – managing director James Hatuikulipi – appointed Mike Nghipunya as acting Fishcor chief executive of the national fishing company in May 2014.
He was subsequently appointed on a permanent basis.
But the fashion-loving executive fell from grace in February this year when he was arrested for alleged corruption involving N$75 million.
The board has been trying to get rid of him since earlier this year, but sources said Nghipunya often reassured them he would soon be out of jail.
Nghipunya failed to be granted bail over the past months.
Patience with these circumstances ended yesterday.
“The board resolved to terminate the employment of Mike Nhipunya as CEO of Fishcor with immediate effect, “ the Fishcor board chairperson said.
