A man (32), who did not have a valid driving licence and allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol or narcotic drugs, caused an accident after driving recklessly and negligently at Okandiikalela-Omangolowani village on Saturday, said police spokesperson Elifas Kuwinga in the weekend crime report.
This resulted in five passengers sustaining various injuries.
The suspect was arrested and police investigations are ongoing, said Kuwinga.
On the same day at Mondesa, Swakopmund, a car hit a family of three pedestrians who were crossing the road.
The driver (30) abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene, said Kuwinga.
One of the victims, Monalisa Fleernys (35), succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
“Meanwhile, her son (7) sustained serious injuries. His condition is said to be in a critical condition.”
The third person is currently being treated at the hospital.
The driver handed himself over at the police station on Sunday and was arrested, added Kuwinga.
