Flanagan wins Namibian Open

Fifty players took part in the Bank Windhoek Namibia Amateur Ladies Strokeplay Championship, which took place last weekend. Local Namibian female golfers, as well as visitors from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Botswana entered the event hosted at Omeya Golf Course. The tournament was contested over 36 holes in Open, Closed, Stableford and Senior sections.

All international and Namibian players entered the Open, while the Closed Championship was reserved for Namibian players only.

Demi Flanagan was the leader after the first round with a 3-under par 69. Namibia’s Caro Els scored a 72, while Cara Gorlei of South Africa, carded 73 and Swanelle de Lange, also of South Africa, carded 78.

On Sunday, Gorlei played an excellent 70, but both Flanagan and Els held on to their lead by scoring 71 each. After the tournament, Flanagan, from South Africa was crowned the Open champion while Els won the Closed Championship. The Stableford section was won by Suzette Vermeulen of Namibia with 67 points while the Senior champion was Gaby Adams, also of Namibia.

At the prize-giving function Bank Windhoek was praised for their continuous involvement and contributions to women’s golf in Namibia over the past 25 years.
