The First National Bank (FNB) has donated N$100 000 to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture for sanitary pads.
FNB retail chief executive Nangula Kauluma made the donation on behalf of the bank, saying that the donation goes a long way towards alleviating period poverty in schools.
Kauluma says the funds will be used to purchase 5 002 menstrual pads for pupils.
“The donation was facilitated through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation Trust, an organisation committed to social and economic development in the country,” Kauluma says.
She says the programme prioritises the needs of vulnerable groups and is in line with the foundation’s focus on community and health development.
She stresses the pressing issue of period poverty, its impact on young girls and the importance of providing access to essential menstrual hygiene products.
Regional education director Paulus Nghikembua emphasised the importance of addressing period poverty to ensure the dignity and well-being of young girls.
“This donation goes a long way for our girls and will certainly make a difference in their future,” he says.
