FOUR inmates who were being held at the Katima Mulilo police station cells escaped from custody on Sunday after they overpowered police officers during a routine cell inspection.

Two Zambians – Kaikwa Kakumba and George Musilafa and two Namibians – Muhupulo Kabika and Matengu Masule broke out at around 17h00 and are believed to be armed.

Zambezi police commissioner Karel Theron confirmed the escape to and said the suspects are still at large.

“The suspects on Sunday overpowered police officers who were doing routine cell inspections. In the process they managed to take one rifle from the police officers and fled with it,” he said, adding that the police had launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Theron warned members of the public that the two Namibians are very dangerous and, therefore, they should not try to engage them but report them to the police.
