It is Friday the 12th, and it feels like everything that can go right will go right today.
Forget Friday the 13th and all its superstitious woes. Today is different and calls for celebration and positivity. There is simply no room for negativity. Nena onena!
Your neighbour who usually wakes you up at the crack of dawn with their obnoxious ‘sungura’ music is playing Young T’s ‘Fikulimwe’.
You wake up feeling refreshed and with none of that random hip pain or that elbow that bothers sometimes.
You don’t even need your alarm clock, because the universe has your back.
You can feel the good vibes vibrating through your body as you walk, talk and work. Your boss calls you into their office, and while you are asking yourself what you have done wrong, you get a promotion.
The ancestors are certainly smiling upon you. You’re extremely happy and feel like ululating, but you remember it is still an office.
It’s not just you. Your colleague that has been helpful to you and sacrificing everything for everyone gets a raise. It is not a promotion, but she will at least be able to take her child to kindergarten now.
As you sit back at your desk, you read the text message from your friend that she’s got a job and will start on Monday.
As you leave work, you realise the traffic is flowing smoothly. The taxis are not stopping randomly, there are no dogs or donkeys on the road, and your car’s low fuel light has not come on yet.
You enter your usually cramped apartment block where your neighbour from the top floor gives you tickets to a ‘Free Your Mind’ comedy show.
The universe is really pulling out all the stops today.
As you get ready for the show, you keep smiling, wondering just how a day can flow as easy as this.
You stand in front of your closet and pick out your purple outfit, and for some reason it fits just fine when it was too tight the last time you had it on.
The music, the atmosphere and the humour are top class. Aye man, this is too good to be true.
The day is yet to come.
Your neighbour decides to make a detour and stops by their friends who are having a little braai.
The drinks are flowing, the music is pumping and the atmosphere is ‘bashash’.
You reluctantly join in the dance and fun, surrounded by people you don’t know, but you feel like you have known them all your life.
As the night winds down, you make your way home, feeling exhausted but content.
You slide into bed, and you can’t help but think that maybe Friday the 12th is the best day of the year.
Forget Friday the 13th and all its superstitions. Today was a day to be happy, positive and full of good energy.
Friday the 12th may be just another day on the calendar, but it’s the day that has been created to bring you nothing but blessings.
Have that slice of cheesecake at the coffee shop at Wilhelmstal on your way anywhere.
Have kapana at the single quarters on your way home.
Get the oranges at the service station at Otavi.
Change it up today and stop to greet that security guard you always pass with nothing.
Say hello today, because it is Friday and it only comes once a week.
