For a fourth consecutive year the Falcon 5 Futsal Namibia team has impressed on their Futsal Fives tour of the Mother City.
A combined boys and girls team of 13 players recently participated in a training clinic and a handful of five-a-side matches at Fives Futbol Century City.
“This tour has proven to be a success and each year gets better with tougher opponents. Our girls were phenomenal, netting over 10 goals per game, but our boys found the going tough although they gained good experience,” said Andre Benjamin, Director of Futsal Namibia.
“We are going to approach the right people to get an official league going, both for the youth and a social league before the end of 2015,” he added.
The kids enjoyed four days of tough competition against Milnerton High, Parklands College and Rylands High School.
“It was a good exercise for all our teams. They get a feel for competition outside our borders and also get to make new friends on and off the court,” said Benjamin.
His boys coach, Abisai Simon had his first taste of coaching outside the borders of Namibia.
“I had so much fun, and so did the boys – we will do much better next year,” he said.
All the players performed well but stand-out performances came from Jasmin Baas, Angelique Bock and Jacintha Lima for the girls and Liam Katjitae and Nuno Pereira for the boys.
Against Milnerton, Namibia’s girls won 9-2, Namibia’s U-15 boys lost 11-4 and their U-17 boys lost 13-5.
Against Parklands College, the girls won 12-0, Namibia U-15 boys lost 9-3 an the U-17 boys lost 6-4.
Against Rylands, the girls won 13-0, the U-15 boys lost 7-4 and the U-17 boys lost 6-4.
