Gaob festival cancelled

DAMARA king Justus //Garoeb at a press conference held at his Khorixas residence on Tuesday evening said the annual Gaob festival will not take place this year.

“We can go on with other meetings and rallies to brief the Namibian people, specifically Damaras, to force them to unite,” //Garoeb said.

The Gaob festival was launched in the 1970s and has been postponed several times over the years since its inception. It is held in November annually.

The festival aims to unite the Damara tribe and educate the youth on their culture. The Damara tribe has more than 30 clans, of which only eight are recognised by the government.

Okombahe is one of the most revered places for the Damara tribe as its kings are buried there.
