President Hage Geingob left the country on Wednesday to join other heads of state in South Africa for the Brics summit.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday morning, the Namibian presidency said Geingob will attend as the outgoing chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) organ on politics, defence and security cooperation.
“The BRICS-Africa Outreach and the Brics Plus Dialogues South Africa have invited leaders from nine different African countries, including president Hage Geingob, in his capacity as the outgoing chairperson of the SADC organ,” the statement reads.
The 2023 Brics summit is the 15th international relations conference of the partnership of five countries, founded on historical bonds of friendship, solidarity and shared interests.
The five member states are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The president will have bilateral meetings with heads of state Joko Widodo of Indonesia, Xi Jinping of China and Mauritius’s Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
“On the same day, president Geingob will also deliver a statement in China-Africa leaders’ dialogue to be hosted by president Cyril Ramaphosa and president Xi Jinping, under the theme ‘Promoting African integration and jointly building a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future’,” the statement reads.
