Geingob to inaugurate National Governance Council

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob will inaugurate the National Governance Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) as a national structure for monitoring the country’s development, as per the APRM’s mandate.

This was revealed in a statement issued by presidential press secretary Alfredo Hengari earlier today.

According to the presidency, the council, which is made up of representatives of the state, the private sector and civil society, is a national body established to manage the APRM process at country level.

“The APRM is a mutually agreed instrument voluntarily acceded to by the member states of the African Union as a self–monitoring mechanism […] to ensure that the policies and practices of participating countries conform to the values, codes and standards contained in the Declaration on Democracy, Political, Economic and Corporate Governance,” the statement read.

Namibia acceded to the APRM in 2017.
